Summer of Discovery Reading Challenge Starts June 1!

Summer of Discovery Boulder Public LibraryBoulder Public Library is gearing up for another inspiring Summer of Discovery reading challenge program themed “Our Connected World.”

What is Summer of Discovery?

From June 1 to July 31, 2024, the library invites Boulder families to join them on their goal to read 2,000,000 minutes. Last year’s program featured 3,618 participants who read a collective total of 2,152,278 minutes, and the library is hoping to dramatically increase those numbers for 2024.

Interested participants are encouraged to register online at boulderlibrary.org/summer, where they can download the Beanstack App, which tracks and monitors readers’ progress allowing for a diverse range of reading materials. Whether it’s audiobooks, magazines, or graphic novels, there’s something for everyone. Registration is currently open.

Prizes include books, passes to the Parks and Recreation facility, free ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery, and tickets to Gateway Park Fun Center. Summer of Discovery will recognize three grand prize winners for the first time this year! Prizes include:

  • An Apple iPad (for teens/adults),
  • A Nintendo Switch (for children),
  • A Toniebox (for pre-readers).

Sign-up is easy and FREE by visiting any of our library locations or online using our Beanstack App.

  • Additionally, on Sunday, June 2nd at 1:00 p.m., the Main Library (1001 Arapahoe Ave) will host “KiKi’s Delivery Service” on the big screen in the Canyon Theater as part of a Studio Ghibli Summer. This family-friendly event will include themed activities, snacks, and movie-related crafts. Rated G, 1h42m. English dub with English subtitles.
  • As the reading program concludes, a special children’s concert will be held in the Canyon Theater on Wednesday, July 24th from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Main Library. Jeff and Paige use songs, storytelling, and interactive play to engage kids with nature, music, and movement. They use costumes and props to create characters and set the scene for an engaging and educational experience.
