“The House in the Cerulean Sea” by T.J. Klune
Linus Baker is a straight-laced rule-following caseworker who lives alone with his cat. He is working for the Department of Magical Youth when he is called on by Extremely Upper Management for a special classified task, which requires him to relocate to an orphanage located on an island. This orphanage, which Linus will be observing to ensure all rules and regulations are upheld, houses six magical youth who are perceived to be particularly dangerous. Clever, funny, and packed with brilliant characters, this fantasy novel is hopeful, refreshing, and makes the reader think about the harmful perceptions that can hold us back and hold others out.
