Boulder Public Library Makerspaces

The maker movement represents the collective energy and ambition of a community of inventors, designers, engineers, artists, craftspeople and tinkerers. Crafted in home studios, garages and local makerspaces, the work of these individuals stirs our imagination and provides a glimpse of what we can achieve as a culture of creators.

Work for Maker Made 2024 will be selected with a strong preference for crafts and disciplines that are visible in our makerspaces, BLDG 61 and STUDIO 24. These include electronics, 3D printed materials, laser cut and CNC work, fiber and textile pieces, interactive digital work, screen printing, metalworking and woodworking.

Important dates:  

Art submissions will be accepted until July 21st and you will be notified of acceptance and which artworks were chosen to display by July 31st 

Maker Made will open September 3rd – November 13th 

Art drop-off in Canyon Gallery at Main: Thursday, August 29th from 3-7pm.

Art pick-up in Canyon Gallery at Main: Thursday November 14th from 1-6pm.

It’s happening! We’re opening up Studio 24 for open studio hours on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. starting next week. Come visit us at the North Boulder (NoBo) library to see the makerspace in action, learn about equipment or get hands-on with a project of your own. Staff will be available for guidance with tools and materials and all experience levels and ages are welcome.

Makerspace Programs

Open Studios: visit BLDG 61 or STUDIO 24 during Open Studio hours to see the makerspaces in action, learn about equipment, or get hands-on with a project of your own. Staff is available for guidance with tools and materials. All experience levels and ages are welcome and no registration is required.

Classes and Programs: check out the event calendar to register for a class. We offer a wide array of introductory classes to learn how to use our tools and equipment as well as project-based workshops with Makerspace staff and community partners.

BLDG 61 at Main Library

BLDG 61 makerspace is equipped with a broad selection of tools and materials to fulfill the needs of both creative and industrial projects.

Open Studio Equipment and Software: 3D printers, electronics workbench, vinyl cutter, airbrush, sewing machines, sergers, looms, and more. Design software such as Adobe CC and Blender are available on BLDG 61 computers.

STUDIO 24 at North Boulder Library

Our new makerspace at NoBo Library has opened! Studio 24 is a community makerspace with a twist. Led by Makers-in-Residence, community presenters and makerspace staff, the studio will offer a new theme every three months. This approach invites community members to dive deeply into each highlighted discipline and learn alongside content experts. Themes for 2024-2025 Residencies include fiber arts, printmaking, repair & mending, painting & drawing, electronics, and traditional crafts. 

Open Studio Equipment and Software:  Sewing machines, Sergers, Dye Sublimation Printers, Heat Press, and design software such as the Adobe Suite and Blender on our laptops and computers.

Safety and Use Requirements

All patrons who visit the makerspaces must adhere to the Makerspace Use Policy. Minors (under 18) must have a parent/adult guardian agree to and sign the Acknowledgement of Risk and Release Form before entering the space. Patrons under the age of fourteen must be supervised by a parent or adult guardian.
