Boulder Public Library District Announces New Libraries

New NoBo Boulder Public Library

As the Boulder Public Library District advances its mission to transform lives and strengthen the community by connecting people, ideas, and information, it is eager to share progress on its latest endeavors, which will benefit all members of the City of Boulder and beyond.

Brand New Location for NoBo Library

As the NoBo Corner Library closes its doors on May 22, 2024, the Boulder Public Library District recognizes how impactful the location has been for the entire community over the last ten years. The District extends its appreciation to all patrons and staff members who have supported this unique location for the previous decade and invites everyone to share in this bittersweet farewell.

On the evening of May 22, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., the community is invited to a special event at the NoBo Corner Library to honor its legacy and look forward to its future.

Additionally, residents of the City of Boulder, library patrons, and community members are invited to the Grand Opening Event for the new NoBo Library on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 4500 13th St., Boulder, CO 80304. The event will feature commemorative speeches, food trucks, a special storytime, bilingual (English and Spanish) entertainment, and crafts, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Patrons will also experience all the amenities the new NoBo Library offers, such as an expanded catalog of materials, meeting and study rooms, an indoor makerspace, BoulderReads literacy programs, classrooms, and more.

NEW Gunbarrel Library

The Boulder Public Library District, in response to the long-standing desire of the Gunbarrel community for a more accessible library, has recently entered into an agreement to open a new library location in Gunbarrel.

Planning to open its doors in 2025, the new Gunbarrel Library is a testament to the District’s efficient planning and commitment to the community. The limited modifications required to transform the former location into the library will ensure a swift and smooth transition, avoiding the usual delays associated with new construction.

“The residents of Gunbarrel have waited long enough for a community library. Our team of talented architects and designers will bring the existing building to life for everyone in the community to enjoy much sooner,” says David Farnan, Library Director for the Boulder Public Library District. “We are so excited for all the opportunities and services this location will provide.”

The Boulder Public Library District will announce the official opening of the new Gunbarrel Library to the public later in the year through a multi-pronged marketing campaign. For specific questions regarding the project, contact [email protected].

Canyon Theater

In addition to the new library announcements, the District is excited about the reimagining of the Canyon Theater as a professional and accessible venue available at no cost to organizers. Located in the North Wing of the Main Library, the Canyon Theater is a 190-seat venue available to host free events open to the community.

The venue is ideal for presentations, film screenings, musical events, small theatrical performances, and multimedia programs. The Canyon Theater is equipped with lighting, sound, and projection systems, and staff will be on-site to assist organizers throughout the duration of their event.

Canyon Theater Performance

“The Canyon Theater is a wonderful space for performative artists, as well as organizers and presenters looking to engage with the community through the exchange of information,” says Farnan. “We are so proud to offer the Canyon Theater as a free resource with countless possibilities, furthering our mission to help transform lives while strengthening the community.”

Online reservation requests will open to the public on June 1, 2024, with theater availability starting on July 6, 2024. Additionally, the Canyon Theater will hold a series of scheduled open house events to allow interested artists and organizers to walk through the space and ask questions of the theater staff to ensure the venue satisfies their needs.

Additional information, reservation requests, and open house schedules can be found by visiting their theater page.
